Dr. Deborah Bowers
Dr. Deborah Bowers is a Board Certified OB/GYN with more than 25 years of experience caring for women in Northern Virginia. Originally from Vermont, Dr. Bowers graduated from Georgetown University in 1985. She worked as an ICU nurse for ten years before returning to the classroom to obtain her medical degree. As a fourth year medical student, Dr. Bowers had a life-changing experience delivering babies in rural Alaska. In 1994, she graduated from The Robert Larner, M.D. College of Medicine at The University of Vermont and went on to complete a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore.
Dr. Bowers has worked in both private practice and academic medicine with multiple publications and presentations at national conferences. She has a special interest in normal labor, hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, gestational diabetes and collaborative practice. Her children were delivered by midwives. As cesarean delivery became more common, Dr. Bowers developed a "family friendly" cesarean to provide women and their partners with the opportunity to have more access to their babies in the operating room. She is passionate about safety and has been active on the Peer Review Committee and the Patient Safety Committee throughout her career. Dr. Bowers is affiliated with Reston Hospital Center and Stone Springs Hospital Center.
Dr. Bowers is a fellow in the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She and her husband of 25 years, a fellow Hoya, reside in Dunn Loring, Virginia with their two college-aged daughters, a yellow lab and two chatty Siamese cats. An avid and life-long equestrian, she enjoys riding and horse-showing with her girls. She plans to retire as a master gardener and thoroughly enjoys perennial gardening and landscape design.
